Windsor Chairs, Rocking Chairs, Etc.Our Windsor chairs are crafted using spoke shaves, drawknives and hand planes. Spindles and bows are split from red oak, then whittled and shaved to size for each chair. Seats are deeply carved and shaped from 2" thick white pine. Maple is used for the legs. Like the chairs of old, Kevin paints the three types of wood using milk paint and dyes in order to bring a unity of appearance. This replicates the look of an antique and is easier to live with in today's world. |

Windsor Arm Chair - Sack Back Of all Windsor chairs, the “Sack Back” is by far the design most people associate with this type of chair. Produced in Philadelphia after 1760, chair makers exported large quantities throughout the Colonies. Benjamin Franklin sat in one while debating the Declaration of Independence in 1776. |

Windsor Chair - Continuous Arm The continuous arm design is one of the great innovations of American furniture. The style originated in New York City around 1790. And, just like the 18th century craftsman did, one “continuous” piece of wood is shaped to form the arms and the back. Hence the name “continuous arm.” |

Windsor Chair - Comb Back The comb back’s origin is Philadelphia which was the hub of Windsor chair making around the middle of the 18th century. With its spindles and crest rail resembling a comb, it is easy to see where the name comes from. |
